It's no surprise that living home is extremely different than my days living at college. Of course there are those few perks of being home, like the refrigerator always being full and not having to buy toilet paper but sometimes the things I miss from college outweigh everything else.
Of course I don't miss the cafeteria food, or the unnecessary group projects. Or those mornings I would wake up still drunk from the night before screaming, "I'm slowly dying". However, having five closets to choose an outfit from was amazing and sharing a room with my best friend was even more amazing. I got extremely lucky with not one, but five awesome roommates I wouldn't trade for the world. They were the reason I enjoyed college so much.
Nobody gave me the heads up I would blink twice and college would be over, but that was something I didn't need to be told. One of the most important lessons I've learned through out life was nothing lasts forever. I knew it would come to and end so I made the best of it. Unfortunately, attending a community college for two years before I went away put a shorter time on my experience but that made those two years away even more special.
So as I lay in bed at night and read the constant "finals week sucks" tweets, I can't help but reminisce what I miss about being away:
1. The morning after. Waking up hungover in your roommates bed with her and then reminiscing what each of you remember went down last night.
2. Friends. Friends everywhere. In your dorm, down the hall, out by the quads. You were constantly surrounded by people the same age as you.
3. Sleeping past noon during the week. Because any sane person made their class schedule in the afternoon or at night.
4. Thirsty Thursdays. No matter if you had a class Friday, Thursday was always the best night to go out. Going out on a Thursday also turned your weekends into 3 days.
5. Winter break, spring break, summer break. Oh and being able to take a break whenever the hell you wanted too.
6. Drunk eats. Never having to eat Ramen Noddles alone drunk in the middle of the night.
7. Never being alone. Whether you are hungry and need someone to grab food with, or just want someone to do stupid shit with, there was always a roommate around.
8. The closets. Wearing a new outfit fofree (as long there were no tags on it).
9. Being poor. It was acceptable to be poor because your roommates were too. So you would shop smart and spend your money on boxes of Franzia.
10. Instagraming. Selfies together are better than selfies alone. Plus someone was always around to help decide on an Instagram filter... and caption.
11. The pregame. Drinking alone is just about as boring as getting ready alone.
12. Having a bad day, but coming home and seeing your roommates as you walked in the door made everything better.
